Abstract
An optimal control scheme for slightly damped gyroscopic systems is presented. The slight damping is treated as a perturbation on the undamped system, permitting an eigensolution for the damped system based on the eigensolution for the undamped system, where the latter can be obtained readily by efficient algorithms. The procedure works with real quantities alone.
